I have found that General Contractors think it will add too much time and investment to the spec home landscape project with minimal return. Although I understand that thought process, nothing could be further from the truth!

With a recent spec home, I provided a conceptual design and visuals so the general contractor could see where everything would be placed. He agreed to the plant material; it was ordered and delivered on site and placement was made. I taught his crew how to plant the material and how much soil amendments and fertilizers to add. The beds were outlined with landscape paint for sod and mulch placement. I also ordered mulch to finish the landscape. The general contractor provided the crew to unload the plant material, then moved the plant containers to their designated spots as directed and planted. Mulching and sod were laid by the crew as well. There was a quick turnaround time, and the general contractor didn’t have to wait for weeks on end to hire a landscape crew to install the material. The design, ordering, and installation was all done within a three-week period. That’s efficient in the busiest part of the year!
